Island Investigations on Club Drugs Last month, a drug trafficking and distribution network involved in selling drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine in karaoke bars and foreigner-exclusive clubs in South (경상) Gyeongsang Province was apprehended by the Coast Guard. Amidst a series of drug crimes occurring in clubs and bars nationwide, a similar drug offender has been arrested in Jeju as well. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was formerly affiliated with a club, has been arrested last month on suspicion of possessing dozens of Ecstasy pills and consuming them. Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Mr. A on charges of drug possession and consumption, and they have also announced that they are conducting supplementary investigations into individuals who were involved in drug consumption with him. Ecstasy, a new type of drug, is known as a "club drug" as it is primarily consumed by young people. It has a hallucinogenic effect that is three times stronger than that of methamphetamine. INTERVIEW Jo Gwang-won / Jeju Office, Korean Society of Drug Abuse Ecstasy is known to produce hallucinogenic effects that can induce a significant elevation in mood. It is indeed a drug that is commonly used by young people. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has stated that this case is unrelated to clubs, and it is difficult to disclose specific details regarding the case, including the specific charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of newly identified drugs seized last year was 260 kg, which is more than a tenfold increase compared to two years ago. Among them, the quantity of Ecstasy seizures increased by seven times during the same period. With the recent arrest of an Ecstasy drug offender in Jeju, there is growing interest in whether the crimes are linked to related industries, as seen in nationwide cases, rather than being isolated incidents of individual crimes. The investigation results regarding any potential spread of crime to associated sectors have garnered significant attention. 제주에도 클럽 마약?…경찰 수사 확대 지난 달 경남에 있는 노래주점과 외국인 전용 클럽 등에서 엑스터시와 케타민 등 마약류를 판매한 판매책과 유통 조직이 해경에 검거됐습니다. 전국적으로 클럽이나 술집에서 마약 범죄가 잇따르는 가운데 제주에서도 유사 마약 사범이 검거됐습니다. 모 클럽 관계자였던 30대 A 씨가 지난 달 엑스터시 수십 정을 소지하고 투약한 혐의로 구속됐습니다. 제주지검은 A 씨를 마약류 소지와 투약 혐의로 구속 기소했고 함께 투약한 이들에 대해서도 보완 수사를 진행하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 엑스터시는 필로폰보다 환각 작용이 3배나 큰 신종 마약류로 젊은 층이 주로 투약하면서 일명 클럽용 마약으로도 알려졌습니다. <인터뷰 : 고광언/ 한국마약범죄학회 제주지회장> 엑스터시를 투약하면 환각작용을 일으켜서 기분이 아주 상승되는 효과를 누리는 마약으로 알려지고 있습니다. 젊은 사람들이 많이 이용하는 마약으로 보면 되겠습니다. 제주경찰청은 이번 사건은 클럽과는 무관하다면서도 구체적인 혐의점 등은 수사가 진행 중이여서 밝히기 어렵다고 전했습니다. 지난해 관세청이 적발한 신종 마약류는 260kg으로 2년 전보다 10배 이상 급증했습니다. 이 가운데 엑스터시 적발 물량은 같은 기간 7배나 늘었습니다. 제주에서도 엑스터시 마약 사범이 검거된 가운데 개인의 단순 범죄가 아닌 전국 사례처럼 연관 업종으로 범죄가 퍼졌을지 수사 결과에 관심이 모아지고 있습니다.

Five-day rotation system for purchasing masks in effect Masks available at pharmacies after 5 p.m. The five-day rotation system based on the last digit in your birth year for purchasing masks is being implemented. Sales of masks begins at 5 p.m. everyday at almost 300 pharmacies. All purchasers must bring their ID card in order to purchase a mask. Family members may purchase masks for the disabled, children born after 2010, and the elderly. One person can only purchase two masks per week. 2. '마스크 5부제' 시작…제주지역 오후 5시부터 판매 9일부터 출생연도에 따라 요일별로 마스크를 구매할 수 있는 5부제가 시행되는 가운데 제주지역은 오후 5시부터 298개 약국에서 판매가 시작됩니다. 마스크 구매를 위해서는 반드시 신분증을 지참해야 하며, 장애인을 비롯해 2010년 이후 출생한 어린이, 1940년 이전 출생한 노인은 함께 사는 가족이 대리 구매할 수 있습니다. 1인 구입개수는 2장으로 한정됩니다.

This is in response to a large number of COVID-19 infections at a call center in Seoul. 120 Mandeok Call Center is operated by the local government. It is increasing the number of disinfections from once a week to twice a week. The call center is checking body temperatures three times per day. The workers are checked when they are arriving for work, after going to lunch, and as they are leaving their office for the day. The province is asking other call centers operated by private companies to intensify measures to prevent the infection. These measures include wearing masks, measuring body temperatures, and strengthening disinfection. "밀집근무시설 방역체계 대폭 강화" 서울 구로구 콜센터에서의 집단 감염 사례와 관련해 제주도가 밀집근무시설에 대한 방역체계를 대폭 강화합니다. 특히 제주도가 운영하는 120만덕콜센터의 경우 건물에 대한 소독을 주1회에서 2회로 늘리고 발열체크도 출근과 점심 후, 퇴근시간에 맞춰 3차례로 확대 실시합니다. 또 도내 민간 콜센터를 운영하는 업체들에 대해서도 마스크 착용과 발열체크, 소독 강화 등 감염 예방을 위한 조치에 만전을 기해 줄 것을 요청하기로 했습니다.

Positive effect from the ‘reduction policy’ of the unused groundwater 4 million tons decrease in water usage The Jeju Provincial Government’s policy for reducing groundwater consumption is fostering positive results. The provincial government announced that the policy reduced the amount of water made available, based on last year’s total consumption. The amount of water allocated was reduced by 30 percent. Total water consumption for the island was reduced by 4 million tons at 167 water wells. The Island is reducing the amount of underground water use by identifying the total usage every time they release permits. They are planning to expand the scope of the reduction through improvements to the system. 7. 사용량 적은 지하수 '감량 정책' 효과 지하수 취수량 감량 정책이 비교적 효과를 거두고 있습니다. 제주특별자치도는 취수 허가량의 절반 미만을 사용하고 있는 지하수 관정에 대해 최대 30%까지 허가량 자체를 감량한 결과 전체 관정의 약 4%인 167곳에서 399만여 톤을 줄였다고 밝혔습니다. 감량된 취수량을 용도별로 보면 사설 관정에서 78%, 공공 관정에서 22% 감량됐고 식품접객과 농업용수의 감량 물량이 컸습니다. 제주도는 지하수 취수를 연장 허가할 때마다 이용량을 파악해 허가량을 감량하고 있으며 앞으로 제도개선을 통해 감량 범위를 넓혀나갈 계획입니다.

The car-free street policy will be implemented once a month from May and includes the 520-meter section from Seomun-ro to Jungang-ro Intersection. This issue was previously reported by KCTV. The province will monitor four Oreums that are currently under a nature restoration program. The provincial government is also assessing the progress of biodegradation and restoration at Saebyeol Oreum and Yongnuni Oreum. In wetlands, the status of animals, plant habitats, and the inflow of invasive species is being checked. In Gotjawals, plant life is being surveyed and damage monitoring is being conducted. All of the passengers getting off this plane wear masks, and they use the hand sanitizer at the entrance of the airport to keep their hands germ-free. The Jeju Tourism Society recently conducted a survey on the fear the virus is causing. 40 percent of respondents said they felt uneasy, a higher number than those reporting that they feel safe or without worry. Considering their satisfaction level concerning the island's virus prevention efforts, the respondents said they were more satisfied with the disinfection work being done on airplanes and at the airport than in taxis and buses. [slug] Guidelines needed to keep distance among people Meanwhile, experts point out that the tourism industry should come up with guidelines to maintain distance with others on one’s travel. [slug] Rearrangement of tables, drive through service proposed The guidelines can include table rearrangement and introduction of drive through service temporarily at restaurants, hotels or tourism attractions to minimize contact between guests and guests or guest and employees. China's Chunchu Airlines is suspending flights on the Jeju-Shanghai route from July 8 to 15. Chunchu Airlines suspended Chinese routes after flights from China were banned from entering Jeju. The airline temporarily resumed operations last month to pick up Chinese students and others. 3. 제주-중국 노선 항공기 운항 다시 중단 코로나19 사태가 장기화되면서 일부 운항이 재개됐던 제주와 중국을 잇는 항공기가 다시 멈춰섰습니다. 중국 춘추항공은 하루 2편씩 운항하던 제주-상하이 노선의 항공기 운항을 8일부터 15일까지 중단하기로 했다고 밝혔습니다. 앞서 춘추항공은 제주지역 무사증 입국이 금지되면서 중국 노선의 항공기 운항을 중단했다가, 지난달 27을 중국인 유학생 등을 태우기 위해 운항을 재개한 바 있습니다.

In all of the 290 pharmacies in the province, duplicate purchase verification systems are being established. This system ensures that people will not be able to buy multiple masks at different pharmacies. Consumers will be required to present their identification cards with their resident registration number while purchasing masks. They will not be able to purchase through another agent. Only two masks per week are permitted.
