4. Justice Minister promises progress on April 3rd prisoner retrials
Promised to establish ways to compensate victims and their families

The Minister of Justice, (추미애) Choo Mi-ae visited the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office.

She was visiting as part of a trip to the island to attend the 72nd annual ceremony to commemorate the tragic April 3rd incident.

She promised her ministry would make efforts to proceed with retrials as soon as possible. The retrial requests were filed by bereaved families of victims of the April 3rd Incident who were arrested and sentenced to years in prison. They were found guilty during the April 3rd Incident without a proper trial seven decades ago.

The minister promised to come up with ways to compensate victims and their families of the incident.

In her other comments, Minister Choo spoke about the recent allegation of improper relations between a high-ranking public prosecutor and a journalist. She pledged that her office is dealing with the case based on principles and laws.

배,보상 방안도 고민하겠다고 말했습니다.

또한 최근 논란이 되고 있는
종편 소속 기자와 검찰 유착 의혹에 대해서도
법과 원칙에 따라 처리하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
