2020 heat spikes due to warmer Siberia

Jeju recorded its second highest average temperature for a march despite the cold snap.

The average temperature in Jeju Island reached 11.9 degrees Celsius last month. According to weather data released by the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration, March of this year is the second highest monthly average temperature since 1961.

The average monthly temperature of Jeju city was 11.5 degrees Celsius. This was the hottest temperature during March in 97 years.

The average temperature of March for the last three years has been ranked within the top five highest temperatures during March in history, suggesting a continuous trend of unusually high temperatures.

An analysis by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) determined that Jeju’s temperature increase was because temperatures in Siberia were 2 degrees higher than usual. In addition, the cool air from the Siberian north could not transfer down to the south.

특히 제주시의 평균 기온이 11.5도로
97년 만에 가장 더운 3월로 기록됐습니다.

최근 3년 동안의 3월 평균 기온은
상위 5위 안에 포함될 정도로
이상 고온 현상이 이어지고 있습니다.

기상청은
시베리아의 기온이 평년보다 2도 정도 높았고
북쪽의 찬 공기가 남쪽으로 내려오지 못하며
제주 기온이 높아진 것으로 분석했습니다.
