3. Second Trial begins for Koh Yu-jeong
Prosecutors seeking heavier penalty related to step-son’s death

The appeal for Koh Yu-jeong, the defendant on trial for the murder of her ex-husband has begun.

Koh Yu-jeong was found guilty in February of murder, dismembering the body, and hiding the parts during her first trial in the Jeju local court. The first hearing of the appeal was led by head judge (왕정옥) Wang Jeong-ok of the (광주) Gwangju High Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors are seeking a heavier penalty for Koh over the suspected murder of her stepson. They feel that the court misunderstood facts and the judge unjustifiably concluded she was not guilty of her step-son’s murder.

Koh submitted an appeal through her newly appointed public defender, expressing that the first trial ruling was unfair and arguing the killing of her husband was not premeditated.

The next trial will begin May 20th and five people have been selected by prosecutors to testify and will attend the trial.

'1심 무기징역' 고유정 항소심 시작

전 남편 살인사건 피고인 고유정에 대한 항소심 재판이 시작됐습니다.

광주고등법원 제주 제1형사부 왕정옥 부장판사는 22일 오전, 제주지방법원 201호 법정에서
살인과 사체손괴, 사체은닉 혐의로 구속기소된 고유정 사건의 항소심 첫 공판을 진행했습니다.

이 자리에서 검찰측은 의붓아들 살인사건에 대한 사실오인과 법리오해, 이에따른 양형부당을 주장했습니다.

고유정 측은 새로 선임한 국선 변호인을 통해 전 남편 살인사건에 대해 여전히 계획적 살인을 부정하며 양형 부당을 항소 이유로 설명했습니다.

항소심 재판부는 2차 공판을 내달 20일로 정하고 검찰이 신청한 증인 5명을 상대로 심문을 진행할 예정입니다.

한편 1심 재판부는 고유정에 대해 무기징역을 선고한 바 있습니다.
