Direct hit on the service industry

Jeju Island’s economic damage from COVID-19 is the highest in the country.

In the first quarter of this year, Jeju’s service sector production and retail sales plunged 10.3 percent and 14.8 percent, respectively. These are the only double-digit drops throughout the country.

The national average rate of decline is 1.1% for service industry production and 2.9% for retail sales.

The province's lodging and restaurant sectors showed the biggest drop, falling by 23.8% compared to the previous year. At the same time, tourism-related industries, including arts, sports, leisure and travel agencies, also fell sharply.

전국에서 유일하게 두자릿수 감소율을
기록했습니다.

전국 평균 하락률은
서비스업 생산 1.1%, 소매판매 2.9%입니다.

도내 서비스업 생산에서는
숙박·음식점이 전년대비 23.8% 줄어
가장 큰 하락폭을 보였고,
예술·스포츠·여가, 여행사를 포함해
관광 관련 업종이 크게 떨어졌습니다.
