Province and 4.3 Bereaved Family Association make joint effort to pass bill
Revised 4.3 Special Law expected to receive bipartisan effort

The provincial government is making a joint effort with the Jeju 4.3 Incident Victims’ Family Association to pass the revised 4.3 Special Law. The original bill was scrapped at the 20th National Assembly.

Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong and the Chairman of the association, Song Seung-moon(송승문), held a meeting at the Jeju Provincial Government Office on the afternoon of the 11th.

Chairman Song has asked the opposition party to cooperate fully in passing the special law, as Governor Won is the current council member leader of the United Future Party. The governor responded positively to the request.

Meanwhile, Oh Young-hoon of the Democratic Party of Korea explained that he is seeking advice from the National Assembly's legislative office to propose a revision to the 4.3 Special Law.

The revision is drawing keen attention to whether the opposition party will participate in a joint proposal between the two parties, with the main argument similar to the previous revision, including compensation for victims and bereaved families and the nullification of military trials.

법안 처리를 위한 공동 노력에 나서기로 했습니다.

원희룡 제주도지사와 송승문 4.3유족회장은
11일 오후 제주도청에서 면담을 갖고 이 같이 합의했습니다.

이 자리에서 송승문 회장은
원 지사가 미래통합당 최고위원인 만큼
특별법 처리에
야당이 협조해줄 것을 요청했고
원 지사도 긍정적으로 대답한 것으로 전해졌습니다.

한편 더불어민주당 오영훈 의원은
4.3특별법 개정안을 다시 발의하기 위해
국회 법제실에 자문을 구하고 있다고 설명했습니다.

이번 개정안은
희생자와 유족 배보상, 군사재판 무효화 등
큰 줄기는 지난 개정안과 유사한 가운데
여야 공동 발의를 위한
야당의 참여 여부가 주목되고 있습니다.
