4. Jeju records highest rate of decline in spending
Consumer spending falls 26.9% compared to 2019

As a result of the economic fallout due to COVID-19, consumer spending has decreased on the island at an alarming rate.

According to the Bank of Korea's economic statistics system, personal credit card balances of Jeju residents totaled 338.9 billion won in March, when COVID-19 began rapidly spreading in the nation.

This was a decrease of 26.9 percent from the same period last year, the highest rate of decline among local governments in the country after Daegu province.

It has been analyzed that islanders significantly reduced their spending because of a hard-hit tourism industry, as social distancing was implemented in the aftermath of COVID-19.

코로나19가 확산했던 지난 3월 제주의 개인 신용카드 총액은
3천389억원을 기록했습니다.

이는 지난해 같은 기간보다 26.9% 줄어든 것으로
전국 지자체 가운데 대구에 이어 가장 높은 감소율입니다.

제주는 코로나 여파로 사회적 거리두기가 시행되면서
관광객 감소에 따른 관련 산업이 부진하면서
소비가 줄어든 것으로 분석됩니다.
