3. Large-scale low-salinity water inflow from China
Jeju waters in state of emergency

Heightened attention will be required as large-scale low-salinity water has been released by China’s Yangtze river.

The Jeju Institute of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries announced that the run-off from the Yangtze river has measured 67,000 tons of water per second, exceeding 50% of the average level.

This is due to torrential rains in southern China since mid-June caused by long duration of the rainy front.

Because the average summer temperature is expected to be higher than average this year, the low salinity water of the Yangtze is likely to be accompanied by high water temperatures.

The Jeju Maritime Research Institute has organized an emergency response team to strengthen its forecasting activities, as it is expected that the high-temperature, low-salinity water will cause a considerable amount of damage once it enters Jeju waters.

중국 양자강에서 대규모의 저염분수가 발생하고 있어

초당 6만 7천톤으로
평균 수준의 50%를 넘고 있습니다.

지난달 중순부터 중국 남부지방에
장마전선이 장기간 머물면서
집중호우가 쏟아진데에 따른 것입니다.

특히 올해는 여름철 평균기온이 평년 보다 높을 것으로 예상되면서
양자강의 저염분수는
고수온을 동반할 가능성이 높은 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

제주도 해양수산연구원은
고수온 저염분수가 제주로 유입될 경우
적지 않은 피해가 예상되는 만큼
비상상황반을 편성해 예찰활동을 강화하고 있습니다.
