1. Governor Won officially expresses interest in presidential bid

Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong has officially expressed his stance on the presidential election for the first time in Jeju, and announced that he is seriously considering a run for the next presidential election.

In a meeting with reporters at the provincial government on the morning of the 14th, Governor Won contemplated the role he would have to take up considering that the presidential election process has accelerated nationwide since the April general elections, and also because national and political crises are deeply affiliated with the Jeju provincial government.

The governor added that he is taking a possible presidential run very seriously, and that he is currently contemplating his vision and strategy, as well as possible political partnerships.

As for his stance on his resignation as governor during a possible presidential run, he responded that there have been few cases where governors resigned from the post while running for the presidential candidate eletion. However, he left it open to an ambiguous possibility by saying that he may change his stance once he officially begins presidential campaigns.

도정과도 전혀 관련 없다고 할 수 없기 때문에
어떤 역할을 해나갈지에 대해
심각하게 고민하고 있다고 말했습니다.

특히 대선 도전이 간단한 문제가 아니라며
어떤 비전과 전략으로 움직일 것인지,
누구와 함께 할 것인지
구상을 고민하는 단계라고 덧붙였습니다.

도지사직 사퇴 여부에 대해서는
대권 경선을 뛰면서 도지사직을 사직한 사례는 거의 없다면서도,
대선 경선이나 본선에 나가게 되면 얘기가 달라질 수 있다고 말해
모호한 가능성을 열어뒀습니다.
