5. 30,000 cuttlefish released in Jeju waters
Province eyes possibility of new source of income

Young cuttlefish were released for the first time in Jeju's waters and will be nurtured as a new source of fishing income.

On July 16th, the Jeju Fisheries Research Institute released 30,000 young cuttlefish that were cultivated in the sea areas of Gimnyeong in Gujwa-eup.

Cuttlefish usually grows up to 20cm in a year, and are widely distributed on the coast of Jeju, but the haul of cuttlefish has greatly reduced in recent years.

The Institute is planning to investigate whether the released cuttlefish can become a possible source of fishing income, and will also conduct caged experiments to discover the first link in the food chain.

4. 갑오징어 3만 마리 첫 방류…신규 소득원 육성

제주 해역에 어린 갑오징어가 처음으로 방류돼
새로운 어업 소득원으로 육성됩니다.

제주도 해양수산연구원은
16일 구좌읍 김녕해역에
자체 생산한 어린 갑오징어 3만 마리를 방류했습니다.

갑오징어는 보통 1년생으로 20cm까지 자라며
제주 연안에 광범위하게 분포하지만
최근 어획량이 크게 줄어든 실정입니다.

해양수산연구원은 방류한 갑오징어가
어업 소득원으로 가능할지 연구하는 동시에
항내 가두리에서 사육시험을 통해
초기 먹이계열을 조사할 방침입니다.
