2. Jeju’s executive branch under fire for inadequate COVID-19 response system
‘Not enough equipment, manpower’
In light of the first case of tertiary infection on the island, the executive branch's response system to prevent further infections has come under fire at the provisional meeting of the Jeju Provincial Council.
The Health and Welfare Committee of the Jeju Provincial Council pointed out at the meeting held on the 21st that although it was necessary to reinforce equipment and manpower to cut off the spread of COVID19 infections, the revised supplementary budget did not support those needs.
The committee also stressed the need to expand the application of the current government-introduced electronic entry and exit system in consideration of Jeju's regional characteristics.
The province said that after the occurrence of the COVID-19 patient from Hallim-eup, the inspection staff at the Institute of Health and Environment was increased to be able to process 600 people a day. However, regarding the expansion of the e-entry logging system, they said this was something that should be carefully considered, as the ratio of infected persons still remains below the standard number.
