A special joint art exhibition showcasing 16 artists from Korea, China, India and Sri Lanka is underway at the Jeju World Heritage Center.

Hundreds of patients in hospital gowns sit in a movie theater-like place.
Some of the people are bathed in blood.
This work done by the Chinese contemporary photographer, Wang Qingsong, represents the fierce war against COVID-19.


The artist photographs scenes exaggerated by his conception.
Interestingly, he hides himself in his works.



Dali intensely stares from the red canvas.
Every hair of his mustache and eyebrows, and fine wrinkles are realistically described like a photograph.
This is a work of (강형구) Kang Hyung-koo who has developed Korea’s own pop art.

Works of 16 artists from Korea, China, India and Sri Lanka are being displayed at the Jeju World Heritage Center.
The theme of the exhibition, “Jeju, Paints Asia”, is sustainable coexistence of human and the environment.
Young artists from Jeju also have opportunities to join the exhibition.

It’s hard for local artists to have opportunities to be a part of exhibitions that showcase Asia’s representative artists. It’s very meaningful that young local artists can stand shoulder to shoulder with popular international artists.

참여 작가들이 아시아를 대표하는 작가들로 형성돼 있다보니까. 지역에서, 제주에서 이런 작가들과 같이 호흡할 수 있는 기회를 갖기가 사실 쉽지 않습니다. 이런 기회를 통해 젊은 작가들이 같이 참여해서 이 자리를 빛낼 수 있다는 게 의의가 있다고 생각하고요.

This year’s “Jeju, Paints Asia” exhibition is the fourth time since its debut in 2017.
An artist from Sri Lanka joined this year for the first time.

Popular artists from Korea, China, India, and Sri Lanka joined the exhibition. Foreign artists can’t physically come to the exhibition due to COVID-19, but it’s significant that the nation’s representative artists are a part of the exhibition.

한국, 중국, 인도. 올해는 한 나라가 더 추가돼서 스리랑카 대표 작가의 작품을 출품했고요. 코로나 시대이다 보니까 외국 작가들은 못 오셨는데. 아시아의 세계적인 거장들이 (전시회를 위해) 제주도에 방문하고 같이 참여하게 돼서 뜻 깊고요.

The exhibition showing colorful and rich artworks of Asian artists continues through the end of next month.
