Issues rare press release criticizing Governor Won

Amid lingering controversy over Governor Won Hee-ryong's remarks at the Liberation Day ceremony, the superintendent of education, Lee Seok-moon, has held a rare press conference where he voiced public criticism against Won.

Superintendent Lee held the press conference at the Jeju Provincial Office of Education on the afternoon of the 18th, and criticized that Governor Won made inappropriate remarks during an event that was dedicated to the memory of patriots who sacrificed for their country’s independence.

Lee also expressed shame in removing his April 3rd camellia badge at the Liberation Day ceremony at the request of the provincial government.

The superintendent said he will work with the Korean Liberation Association to further strengthen the education on modern Korean history.

4.3동백꽃 배지를 떼고 참석한 것과 관련해서도
제주도의 요청에 따른 것이었다며 부끄러운 모습이었다고 말했습니다.

이 교육감은
앞으로 광복회와 협력해
한국 현대사 교육을 더욱 강화하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
