Seogwipo City is compiling childhood memories and stories told by village elders to preserve the history of the villages.
Illustrations drawn by the storytellers are also included in the compilation.
Todd Thacker reports.
At a community center in (남원읍) Namwon-eup, village elders are recounting childhood memories and local stories that were once told to them.
Writers gently draw out the past from the elders and record their recollections.
The elders reveal their experiences in earnest.
This is a project run by Seogwipo City to record the history and culture of local villages. The documentation will include both written records and illustrations.
The elders' stories are being illustrated with the help of members of a community painters’ club.
Illustrations show what old houses looked like and how they once bathed in a local brook.
The compiled stories and illustrations of these respected villagers are set to be published in book form. Thus their lives and experiences will live on for future generations to come.
