3. Fears allayed over low salinity water from China
Jeju’s waters salinity levels normalize after Typhoon Bavi

Due to the impact of Typhoon Bavi, fears over low salinity water from China entering the waters of Jeju, which was expected at the end of August, have been allayed.

The Jeju Ocean and Fisheries Institute predicted that the low salinity water from the East China Sea would ride the south wind and flow into Jeju’s waters at the end of August. However, as Typhoon Bavi passed through, the low salinity water was mixed with the sea water, normalizing the salinity. The Institute plans to conduct testing in the near future in order to analyze the changes in the water with more precision.

Currently, Jeju’s seas have a salinity level of 30psu and low salinity water has not been observed.

However, high temperatures of over 30 degrees continue along the coast of Jeju Island.

3. 태풍 바비 영향 중국발 저염분수 '소멸'

지난 제8호 태풍 바비의 영향으로
8월 말 제주 해상에 유입될 것으로 예상됐던
중국발 저염분수도 사라졌습니다.

제주도해양수산연구원은
동중국해에서 남풍을 타고
8월 말 제주 해상에 유입될 것으로 예상됐던 저염분수가
태풍 바비에 의해 바닷물과 뒤섞여 소멸한 것으로 보인다며
조만간 정밀 해상 예찰을 통해
염분 변화를 확인할 예정입니다.

제주 해상은 염도 30psu 정도로
저염분수는 관측되지 않고 있습니다.

하지만,
제주 연안에서 30도 이상의
고수온 현상은 계속되고 있습니다.
