Jeju City experiences series of foul smells
Mainly caused by landfill compost

The foul odor that occurred in Jeju City on the 10th and 11th is thought to be caused by food compost that was sprayed around the pasture of the Bonggae-dong landfill.

After an investigation of the sites, Jeju City predicts that the smell occurred while 500 tons of food waste from the Bonggae-dong landfill were transported and sprayed to nearby pastures on the 10th and 11th.

As a result, all composting, transporting, and distribution of manure has been halted and emergency work with odor reduction agents was conducted.

The odor that occurred during the two days caused a series of complaints throughout Jeju City, including Ara-dong, Donam-dong, Ido 2-dong and Nohyeong-dong.


2. 제주시 전역 '악취 피해' 속출…매립장 퇴비 원인

지난 10일과 11일 이틀동안 제주시 일대에서 발생한 악취 피해 원인은
봉개매립장 목초지 일대에 살포된 음식물 퇴비 때문인 것으로
추정됩니다.

제주시는
현장을 확인한 결과
지난 10일과 11일
봉개 매립장 음식물쓰레기 처리 부산물인 퇴비 500톤을
인근 목초지로 운반하고 살포하는 과정에서
악취가 발생한 것으로 추정하고 있습니다.

이에 따라
이 일대 퇴비와 축산 액비 운반과 살포를 중단하고
냄새 저감제로 긴급 작업을 진행하고 있습니다.

한편 이틀동안 발생한 악취로
아라동과 도남동, 이도2동과 노형동 등
제주시 전역에서 민원이 속출했습니다.
