Governor Won vows legal action against Japan for discharging contaminated water
Threatens lawsuits in domestic and international courts

Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong announced he would take legal action against the Japanese government if it decides to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Governor Won held a press conference at the National Assembly on Tuesday and said Jeju Island and South Korea will not tolerate “a single drop of Fukushima contaminated water" and insisted that the Japanese government cease action immediately.

If Japan rejects these requests, he added, Jeju will push for joint action with other coastal cities like Busan. The province also plans to file both civil and criminal lawsuits against Japan in both Korean and Japanese courts, as well as in the international court.

일본 정부가
후쿠시마 원전 오염수를 방류하겠다고 결정한 것과 관련해
원희룡 제주도지사가 법적 대응을 예고했습니다.

원 지사는 20일 국회에서 기자회견을 열고
제주와 대한민국은
단 한 방울의 후쿠시마 오염수도 용납할 수 없다며
일본 정부는 관련 준비를 당장 중단해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

만약 일본이 이 같은 요구를 거부할 경우
제주와 부산 등 바다와 인접한 도시 협의체와
공동행동을 추진하고
한일 양국 법정에 일본을 상대로 민.형사소송은 물론
국제재판소 소송도 진행하겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
