Jeju local currency to be issued in November
Total of ￦20B will be released in 2020

Jeju Island’s local currency will be issued to boost the local economy and replace the existing gift certificates.

The Jeju Provincial Council passed an ordinance on the issuance of the local currency that was approved by the standing committee at the plenary session of the 388th special meeting.

The provincial council's Economic Committee for Agriculture, Fishery and Livestock revised the ordinance to issue local currency in the form of paper as well as charge cards or digital barcodes for mobile phones. The decision was also made to expand the distribution area to also include other local governments.

The ordinance has passed through the provincial council and the local currency called '탐나는전’ is expected to be released by the end of November, with a total of 20 billion won released this year, and expanding to 370 billion won by 2022.

지역경제를 활성화하고 기존 상품권을 대체할
제주형 지역화폐가 발행됩니다.

제주도의회는
제388회 임시회 본회의에서
상임위원회를 통과한
지역화폐 발행 조례안을 가결했습니다.

앞서 도의회 농수축경제위원회는
카드나 모바일 뿐 아니라
종이 형태로도 지역화폐를 발행하고
제주에만 한정했던 유통지역을
다른 지방자치단체로 확대할 수 있도록
조례안을 수정했습니다.

조례안이 도의회를 통과함에 따라
지역화폐 '탐나는전'은
11월 말쯤 시중에 나올 것으로 예상되며
올해 200억 원을 시작으로
2022년까지 3천 700억 원 규모로 발행됩니다.
