Governor Won: ‘Jeju Municipal Police should be maintained and expanded’
Pushes back against pressure to dissolve Jeju’s autonomous police

Governor Won Hee-ryong has stressed that the Jeju Municipal Police, which is currently in the middle of a controversial push to be dissolved, must not only be maintained but expanded.

Governor Won made the remarks during a briefing session on the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on the afternoon of the 13th at the provincial government building.

Prior to the National Assembly's legislation of the self-governing police system, which is scheduled to be introduced in January next year, the province requested legislation on the transfer of Jeju autonomous police affairs so that the self-governing system prescribed by the Jeju Special Act would not be affected.

At the meeting, Governor Won also proposed the prompt handling of the revision of the 4.3 Special Act, the construction of the 119 Trauma Center in Jeju Island, the improvement plans to increase the size of Jeju accounts in the Balanced National Development Special Account, and the support for the special grant tax on the Gangjeong water purification plant maintenance project.

경찰 자치 제도가 훼손되지 않도록
제주자치경찰 사무의 이양 근거 법제화를 요청했습니다.

4.3 특별법 개정안의 조속한 처리와
119 트라우마센터 건립의 제주 유치,
균특회계의 제주계정 규모 확대를 위한 개선방안,
강정정수장 정비사업 특별교부세 지원 등을 건의하기도 했습니다.
