Nighttime hiking to ring in new year on Hallasan to be prohibited
National park service bans hikers from watching first sunrise of 2021

Watching the first sunrise of the new year atop the Hallasan mountain, a beloved tradition for mountain-climbing enthusiasts, will not take place this New Year’s Day.

The Hallasan Mountain National Park Service announced that they will not allow nighttime hiking on the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails on the first day of next year, which had been previously allowed for those wanting to enjoy the year’s first sunrise.

The park service explained that the ban on nighttime hiking was based on comprehensive consideration of the COVID-19 Act on the Prevention and Management of Infectious Diseases and the Administrative Measures for Special Defense in Jeju Island.

성판악과 관음사 탐방로에 한해 이뤄진
야간산행 특별허용을
다가오는 새해 첫날에는 시행하지 않는다고 밝혔습니다.

야간산행 금지는
코로나19 확산방지를 위한
감염병 예방과 관리에 관한 법률과
제주도 특별방역 행정조치를 종합적으로 고려해
결정됐다고 설명했습니다.
