Spread of COVID-19 in Jeju drops significantly since Christmas
Downturn attributed to strengthened social distancing measures
The number of COVID-19 cases in Jeju has declined since the Christmas holiday, and the province announced that although the future cannot be predicted under the current circumstances, the spread of regional infections seems to have taken a downturn.
In a briefing on the 28th, Bae Jong-myeon (배종면), head of the Jeju Center for Infectious Disease Control and Prevention, explained that the spread of local infections has slowed down since Christmas Day due to the heightened social distancing measures that were put into effect on the 18th, as well as the transition to online classes by the education office, and active cooperation of provincial residents.
He added that the recent case of COVID-19 which occurred during the patient's self-quarantine period also prevented the possibility of further transmission in the community.
However, as the risk of infections is still high in many parts of the province, residents were asked to continue to abide by the social distancing rules.
