Governor Won officially announces bid for presidency
Aspires to be protagonist of change in politics

Jeju governor Won Hee-ryong has officially announced his bid for the presidency and will be launching his presidential candidate campaign before July.

In a New Year’s Talk held at the KCTV studio on the 7th, the governor emphasized his ambition to become a protagonist of change in South Korea’s politics.

Governor Won previously said in a year-end talk with journalists that he would announce his run for presidency in July. It is the first time the governor has made his intentions clear in Jeju.

Speaking on the topic of COVID-19 relief funds, the governor asserted that support for people with financial difficulties has higher priority than universal support, implying that the province will be offering additional support for residents who have been hit hard by the pandemic.

'나'였으면 좋겠다는 꿈을 가지고 있다며
오는 7월 시작되는
대통령 후보 경선에 참여해
야당 후보로 선출되겠다고 말했습니다.

원 지사는 가장 최근인 지난해 말
출입기자와의 송년 대담에서도
7월쯤 출마 여부를 밝히겠다고만 말했을 뿐
제주지역에서 대권 도전을 공식화한 것은 이번이 처음입니다.

원 지사는 코로나 재난지원금에 대해서는
보편적 지원보다는
어려운 곳에 집중하는 선별적 지원이 우선이라며
앞으로 제주에도
이 같은 방식의 추가 지원을 시사했습니다.
