Electoral District Planning Committee launched
Recommendations will be submitted by year-end

Ahead of the Provincial Election and Local Council Election in June next year, a committee has been formed to discuss the number of lawmakers in Jeju Island and the demarcation of electoral districts.

Jeju Island launched the first provincial council election district planning committee on the afternoon of the 26th at the provincial office building and appointed 11 members recommended by the provincial council and the National Election Commission.

The committee plans to submit a proposal of recommendations to the province by the end of this year, six months before the local elections, after deciding whether to expand the number of provincial councilors, eliminate the provincial education councilors, and revise the constituency based on population deviation.

Governor Won Heeryong has stated that the debate on the demarcation of constituencies is an important decision-making process for grassroots autonomy. He has expressed his support for the committee in coming up with a suitable alternative.

제주도의원 정수와 선거구 획정 등을 논의할 위원회가 구성됐습니다.

제주도는
26일 오후 도청 대강당에서
제1차 도의원선거구획정위원회를 개최하고
도의회와
선관위 등이 추천하는 11명을 위원으로 위촉했습니다.

선거구획정위원회는
앞으로 도의원 정수 확대와 교육의원 존폐 여부,
그리고
인구 편차에 따른 선거구 획정 작업을 진행한 뒤
지방선거 6개월 전인 올해 말까지
제주도에 권고안을 제출할 계획입니다.

선거구 획정 논의는 풀뿌리 자치를 위한 중요한 의사결정 과정이라며
위원회에서 적합한 대안이 도출될 수 있도록 행정에서도 적극적으로 지원하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
