Province invests ₩5B in 2021 to buy private Gotjawal forest
Pushes ahead with plan to collectivize important ecosystems
Jeju Island will invest 5 billion won this year to purchase privately owned areas of the Gotjawal forest.
The area to be purchased is in the vicinity of the National Forest of the Korea Forest Service and the Gotjawal area of Jocheon and Hankyung. The province’s aim is to collectivize sites with eco-grades of 1 and 2.
The purchase price will be determined after consultation with the landowner and calculating the average of two valuations made by two separate appraisal companies.
The province initiated a plan in 2009 to invest 118 billion won from 2009 to 2028 to purchase 950 hectares of privately owned Gotjawal forest areas.
