Women sea divers holding rituals island-wide
Events in 35 communities through end of April

The Haenyeo Gut (해녀굿) ritual, which prays for the women sea divers’ luck and good catch for the year, will be held in Gwideok 1-ri (귀덕1리) of Hallim-eup this year, and will be carried out by 34 fishing villages through April.

The haenyeo-gut is traditionally held for two months from the beginning of January to the beginning of March on the lunar calendar under various names, such as Yongwang-gut (용왕굿), Yeongdeung-gut (영등굿), Haesinje (해신제), and Sujinje (수진제 ) with the supervision of the village fishing community.

This year, in order to prevent the spread of COVID 19, only a minimum number of people will attend, and quarantine regulations, such as wearing masks and providing hand sanitizers, will be carried out.

올 한해 해녀들의 무사안녕과 풍어를 기원하는 해녀굿이
한림읍 귀덕1리를 시작으로
오는 4월까지
제주도내 34개 어촌계별로 봉행됩니다.

해녀굿은
용왕굿과 영등굿, 해신제, 수진제 등
다양한 명칭으로
마을어촌계 주관하에
음력 1월 초부터 3월 초까지 두달간 진행됩니다.

올해는
코로나19의 확산 방지를 위해 최소한의 인원만 참석하고
마스크 착용과
손소독제 비치 등 방역수칙을 준수하도록 하고 있습니다.
