Shinsegae Group withdraws from Jeju Soju
Decision made due to accumulated deficits

Shinsegae Group has made a final decision to close its Jeju soju business.

According to Jeju Soju Company Limited, Shinsegae Group has suspended its production plant since the 3rd of March with the decision to withdraw from the business.

Shinsegae Group acquired Jeju Soju back in 2016 and has invested a total of 75 billion won. However the group has decided to drop its business after struggling to expand its market share.

Jeju Soju recorded 14 billion won of deficits in 2019 and is claimed to have had deficits hitting 10 billion won last year.

4. 신세계, 제주소주 적자 누적 '사업 철수'

신세계그룹이 제주소주 사업을 접기로 했습니다.

주식회사 제주소주에 따르면
신세계그룹이 사업 철수를 결정함에 따라
지난 3일부터 생산 공장 가동을 중단했습니다.

신세계그룹은 지난 2016년 제주소주를 인수해
그동안 모두 750억원을 투입했지만,
시장 점유율 확대에 어려움을 겪은 것으로 알려졌습니다.

제주소주 적자 규모는
지난 2019년 140억 원을 기록했으며,
지난해도 100억 원을 넘은 것으로 추정됩니다.
