Council members wary of 2nd airport plan
Jeju Provincial Council expresses dissatisfaction with governor’s endorsement

The Jeju Provincial Council is expressing its opposition to Governor Won Hee-ryong's support for a plan to build a second airport on the island.

On the afternoon of the 11th, Provincial Council Chairman (좌남수) Joa Nam-su called Deputy Governor for Political Affairs (고영권) Ko Yeong-kwon to his office to express his dissatisfaction with Governor Won's support for the second airport.

Although the Provincial Council and the governor reached an agreement to avoid engaging in activities that might provoke conflict after listening to the opinions of residents at the end of last year, Chairman Joa stressed that the governor had presented his position unilaterally and he should take full responsibility for the outcome.

In response, Deputy Governor Ko said that they had not broken an agreement with the Provincial Council, but rather had carried out their duty to share information with residents before the official announcement was released at the request of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. He also added that they will continue to communicate, cooperate, and resolve conflicts among local residents.

Meanwhile (박원철) Park Won-cheol, former chairman of the Special Committee on Conflict Resolution, along with (홍명환) Hong Myung-hwan, a member of the Public Opinion Management Committee, also held a press conference in the council's press room, urging Governor Won to withdraw his statement of support for the second airport which was submitted to the ministry and withdraw from his official position.

일방적으로 발표했다며
앞으로 일어나는 일은
원 지사가 전적으로 책임져야 할 것이라고 말했습니다.

이에 대해 고영권 부지사는
의회와의 합의를 파기한 것은 아니라
국토부의 요구에 따라
공문을 보내기에 앞서 도민께 먼저 알리는 과정이었다며
앞으로 소통과 협력,
도민간 갈등해소에 더욱 힘쓰겠다고 말했습니다.

홍명환 여론조사 공정관리 위원도
도의회 기자실에서 기자회견을 갖고
원희룡 지사는
국토부에 제출한 2공항 추진 필요성을 밝힌 공문을 철회하고
스스로 사퇴해
갈등과 반목으로 몰아넣은 현 사태에 대해 책임질 것을 촉구했습니다.
