Excavation project for April 3rd Incident victims to be pushed forward
7 sites to be investigated

The excavation project for the Jeju April 3rd incident victims will be carried out this year.

Jeju Island has decided to select seven places for the project, including Saekdal-dong at Seogwipo City, Kashiri at Pyoseon-myeon, and Nohyeong-dong at Jeju City, where citizens were slaughtered during the April 3rd incident.

The April 3rd Peace Foundation will conduct the excavation project, and the Institute of forensic and anthropological science at Seoul National University will be in charge of genetic identification.

Jeju Island plans to complete the excavation project within the first half of this year and transport the recovered remains to the Jeju April 3rd Peace Park or hand them over to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, 405 remains have been discovered from previous excavation projects from 2006 to 2018.



3. 4·3 희생자 유해발굴 사업 추진…7곳 대상

제주4.3 희생자 유해발굴 사업이
올해 본격 추진됩니다.

제주도는 4.3 당시 학살돼 시신이 암매장된
서귀포시 색달동과 표선면 가시리,
제주시 노형동 등 7곳을 선정해
유해를 발굴하기로 했습니다.

유해발굴 사업은 4.3평화재단이 진행하게 되며
서울대 법의학연구소가 유전자 감식을 맡게 됩니다.

제주도는 올해 상반기 안에 유해발굴 사업을 마무리하고
수습된 유해에 대해서는
4.3평화공원 봉안관에 안치하거나 유족에게 인계할 계획입니다.

한편 지난 2006년부터 2018년까지 추진된 유해발굴 사업에서는
405구의 유해가 발굴됐습니다.
