Civic group opposes Education Council
The NGO also against councilors with multiple positions

A civic group in Jeju has submitted a proposal on the revision to the Jeju Special Act to the Jeju Provincial Council. The proposal calls on the abolition of the Education Council and disallowance of taking additional roles by council members.

The non-government organization argued that the education council itself should be abolished through the revision of the special law, saying that the current education council has an institutional loophole as education councilors have voting rights at the plenary session.

They stressed that when a Provincial Councilor serves for multiple roles such as the Vice-governor, Head of the Planning and Coordination Office, and the Administrative Mayor, the congressional vacancy can disrupt the council’s oversight function.

현재 교육의원은
본회의 의결권을 갖는 제도적 허점이 있다며
이번 특별법 개정을 통해
교육의원 제도 자체를 폐지해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

행정시장을 겸할 경우
이로 인한 의회 공백으로
집행부 견제 기능에
차질을 줄 수 있는 만큼
겸직 특례도 없애야 한다고 강조했습니다.
