Expansion for administrative districts under review
Debates on dividing Jeju City into East and West Jeju City will be held

The plan to divide the administrative districts of Jeju Island from two to three is under review.

The Provincial Council’s Autonomy Administration Committee will host a policy debate on the adjustment of the administrative districts on April 9.

During the debate, they plan to discuss ways to make the island’s administrative cities three main areas by dividing Jeju City into East and West Jeju City.

Jeju City has a population of 500,000 people and is facing challenges with administrational limitations including receiving subsidies or various development approvals due to lack of legal status.

The revision on the number of administrative districts can be made with the proposal on related ordinance. The debate is drawing attention on whether a full scale discussion on the reform will occur.

한편 행정시 권역을 포함한 행정구역 조정은
관련 조례를 개정하면 가능한데
이번 토론회를 계기로
본격적인 개편 논의가 이뤄질지 주목됩니다.
