Monitoring and evaluation system of groundwater quality to be established
Province to benchmark overseas cases

Jeju Special Self Governing Province is establishing a system to systematically monitor and evaluate groundwater quality.

The province said that they’re conducting a research to establish this system for monitoring and evaluating the quality of groundwater.

This is expected to help expand regional monitoring according to pollution levels and help to review the standards for groundwater pollution by benchmarking cases from overseas.

Up until now, Jeju's groundwater has been poorly monitored as water quality monitoring has not been institutionalized, mostly relied on sample collecting.

제주도가 체계적인 지하수 관리를 위해
제도화된 모니터링과 평가 체계 구축에 나섭니다.

제주도는 이를 위해
지하수 수질 모니터링과 평가 체계 구축 용역을
진행하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 이번 용역을 통해
오염도에 따른 지역별 모니터링을 확대하고
해외 사례 벤치마킹 등을 통해
지하수 수질 오염 기준을 검토할 예정입니다

그동안 제주의 지하수는
수질 모니터링이 제도화되지 않고
지역적인 표본조사에만 그쳐
관리가 허술하다는 지적이 제기돼 왔습니다.
