Management system for used EV battery to be established

The province is planning to establish a system to manage and utilize used electric vehicle batteries.

The provincial government announced that they plan to invest 8.6 billion won for three years from next year to build a system to support development, testing, and certification of applied products of EV batteries, as their project is selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.

Once used, electric vehicle batteries are classified as toxic substances containing lithium and nickel and are stored separately because they cannot be buried.

Currently, around 172 batteries are stored in the province, and it is expected that a large amount of commercial electric vehicle batteries will be discharged from 2023.

3. 다 쓴 전기차 배터리 관리·활용 체계 구축 추진

제주도가 다 쓴 전기차 배터리를 관리하고 활용하기 위한 체계 구축에 나섭니다.

제주도는 산업통상자원부 공모사업에 선정됨에 따라
내년부터 3년 동안 예산 86억 원을 투입해
사용 후 배터리 응용제품 개발부터
시험, 인증 지원 체계를 구축한다고 밝혔습니다.

전기차 배터리는 한 번 쓰고 나면
리튬과 니켈 등이 포함된 유독물질로 분류돼
직매립할 수 없어 따로 보관하고 있는 실정입니다.

현재 도내에는 172대의 배터리가 보관돼 있으며,
오는 2023년부터 영업용 전기차 배터리가
대량으로 배출될 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.
