Profitability of solar power industry declines
Province preparing for cap on total amount of renewable energy production

While many solar power generation facilities sprung up in Jeju, the overall profitability of the industry declined and even led to the shutdown of some facilities, forcing the production of electricity to come to a halt.
The province is belatedly preparing countermeasures.

According to the province, the number of transfer contracts of solar power generation facilities was only 30 in 2017, exceeded 100 in 2019, and also reached 10 this year.

This is because the introduction of LNG power plants to the province in 2019 lowered the overall power sales price and led to a decline in the profitability of solar power generation.

In addition, the province had to forcibly stop public solar power generators for the first time due to the overproduction of electricity.

The province is pushing for the introduction of a cap on the total amount of renewable energy production, but critics are saying that it is a belated measure.
2. 태양광 발전 수익성 떨어지고 '셧다운'까지

제주에 태양광발전시설이 우후죽순 들어서면서
수익성이 떨어지고
전력생산을 강제로 중단하는 셧다운까지 나타나면서
제주도가 뒤늦게 대책마련에 나서고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
지난 2017년 30건에 불과하던 태양광 발전시설 양도 양수는
2019년 100건을 넘어섰고
올해도 10여건에 이르고 있습니다.

지난 2019년 제주에도 LNG 발전소가 들어오면서
전체적인 전력판매 단가가 낮아졌고
태양광발전사업의 수익성 저하로 이어졌기 때문입니다.

여기에다 전기 과잉생산으로 이어지며
공공 태양광발전기를 처음으로 강제 중단하는 사례도 나타나고 있습니다

제주도는 뒤늦게 신재생에너지 총량제 도입을 추진하고 있지만
이미 확산될 대로 확산된 터에
뒤늦은 대책이라는 비판이 나오고 있습니다.
