Nets are hauled in
Various kinds of fish including (각재기) horse mackerel and (자리돔) damselfish flop in the nets.
Whitish semi-transparent bodies stand out among the shimmering flopping fish.
They are (한치) Hanchi squid, one of the island’s popular summer foods.
They are scooped up and sorted out by size.
Soon (한치) Hanchi squid fill the containers. They swim in a leisurely way.
Last year, the temperature of waters around the island was cooler than normal due to the long rainy season, which affected the animal that thrives in warmer currents.
This spring’s hot weather brings (한치) Hanchi squid to the island.
Fishermen happily return to the port with a boat full of the welcome guest.
As the season for the soft-bodied animal has started, the island’s popular summer food intrigues gourmands.
