Case of thrombocytopenia following vaccination reported in Jeju
National government acknowledges 1st death after vaccination

The national government recently acknowledged the link between AstraZeneca vaccine and the recent death of a patient in his 30s who was vaccinated with AstraZeneca. The man was confirmed to have side effects called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome and a similar case has also been reported in Jeju.

According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, a man in his 60s who completed the first round of AstraZeneca vaccination on the 1st was reported to health authorities as a suspected case of thrombosis with low platelets.

As a result, Jeju Island will conduct an investigation, while requesting the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to confirm the thrombosis.

Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome is known as one of the rare side effects of viral vector vaccines such as Astrazeneca or Janssen vaccines. It can cause headaches, vomiting, and vision problems.

이에따라 제주도는 백신 접종과의 인과성 여부를 규명하기 위한
기초조사를 진행하는 한편 질병관리청에 혈소판 감소성 혈전증 확진검사를 의뢰할 예정입니다.

두통이나 구토, 시야 이상 등
아주 드물게 발생할 수 있는 부작용 가운데 하나로 알려져 있습니다.
