(이준석) Lee Jun-seok, leader of the largest opposition party, People Power Party, revisited Jeju this Wednesday following his appointment.
He shared most of his time in Jeju with Governor Won Heeryong. Lee evaluated Won as a potent presidential runner, and promised to resolve April 3rd Incident related issues including national compensation and to push ahead with the second airport as planned.

(이준석) Lee Jun-seok, leader of the largest opposition party, the People Power Party, visited the Jeju April 3rd Peace Park to pay tribute to the victims on Wednesday(June 23rd).
It’s been 19 days since he visited the memorial park as a candidate of the party’s leadership.


At his previous visit, he wrote he would make his party honorable to those killed during the April 3rd Incident at the visitor book.
This time, he wrote that he would make more efforts to completely cure the pain of the tragedy.


The leader says that he will make efforts to resolve April 3rd Incident related issues, and request the president to attend the memorial ceremony, if his conservative party wins the 2022 presidential election.

On the issue of the island’s second airport, he said he clearly sees the existing airport has reached its capacity, therefore another airport is inevitably needed. He added that his party will support the new airport creation.

I’ll persuade members of my party to support the new airport creation project. An airport is a main gateway to an island. The congested airport means congestion in Jeju. I will make active efforts to support the project.

Notably, he shared most of his schedule in Jeju with the governor who would likely run for presidency from his party.
The governor gave him a ride in his electric car, and rode electric scooters together. These events were to increase Won’s presence as a presidential candidate.


Lee said Won was a symbol of political reform, and now a highly possible and potent presidential runner.

Won is a respectable politician to me. I asked him today if he has plans to expand his works to the national level, he answered that he is interested in doing that.

Meanwhile, when asked about (윤석열) Yun Seok-youl, the former Prosecutor-General and another presidential contender, Lee answered that his party would not respond to the so-called (윤석열) Yun Seok-youl X-files that have allegedly contained allegations on himself and his family as Yun is not a member of his party at the moment, but if Yun joins the party his party is open to investigate the allegations.
