Professor Min Kee: ‘Number of local lawmakers should be expanded to 48’
Electoral apportionment in Jeju underway

Ahead of the nationwide local elections scheduled June next year, and with electoral division work being carried out, some are voicing the need to increase the number of provincial council members.

Professor (민 기) Min Kee of Jeju National University, who gave a keynote lecture at the Jeju Provincial Council Redistricting Commission’s debate held at the Jeju Agricultural and Fishery Center on the 7th, argued that the number of provincial lawmakers should be expanded from 43 to 48.

Professor Min said that the significant increase in population compared to when Jeju Special Self-Governing Province was first launched was not reflected in the number of provincial council members.

제주도의회 의원 선거구획정위원회의 토론회에서
기조 강연을 통해
현재 도의원 정수 43명을 48명으로 확대해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

민 교수는
제주특별자치도 출범 당시에 비해 인구수가 크게 늘었는데도
도의회 의원 정수에는 반영되지 않았다며
헌법재판소가
인구 편차 기준을 강화한 만큼
현실에 맞게 조정해야 한다며 이같이 주장했습니다.
