Livestock authorities urging preventive measures against heat damage
Heat wave expected to continue

With predictions that the heat wave will continue, livestock authorities have urged extra precautionary measures against heat damage.

No major heat damage cases such as mass deaths from heat waves have been reported as of yet. However, with the heatwave expected to continue, they have decided to strengthen monitoring of livestock farms.

They plan to instruct livestock farmers to maintain proper breeding density and to lower the temperature within livestock facilities urging them to use shade curtains, water spraying and maintain ventilation.

In general, it is known that heat damage occurs when the livestock temperature of Korean beef and chicken is over 30 degrees Celsius, and that of cows and pigs is 27 degrees Celsius or higher. Last year, 68 cases of heat-related damages were reported.


3. 폭염 지속 예보…축산농가 피해 예방 당부

당분간 폭염이 지속될 것으로 예보됨에 따라
축산당국이 폭염 피해에 대한 주의를 당부했습니다.

제주시는 지금까지 폭염으로 인한 집단 폐사 등
큰 피해는 발생하지 않았지만
폭염이 지속될 것으로 예보됨에 따라
축산농가 모니터링을 강화하기로 했습니다.

축산농가에는 적정 사육밀도를 유지하고
그늘막 설치와 환기, 물 뿌리기 등을 통해
축사 내부 온도를 낮출 수 있도록 지도할 방침입니다.

일반적으로 한우나 닭은 축사 온도가 30도,
젖소와 돼지는 27도 이상부터
고온피해가 시작되는 것으로 알려지고 있으며
지난해에는 폭염 피해 68건이 발생한 바 있습니다.
