The provincial council election district planning committee seeks to expand the number of provincial council members in the nationwide local elections scheduled in June of next year.
Four improvement plans have been suggested so far and one of them is dominant, which is increasing the number of councilors from 43 to 46, by increasing two in local districts and one in proportional representation.
The plan includes dividing (아라동) Ara-dong and (애월읍)Aewol-eup electoral districts by two, as they exceed the upper population limit of electoral districts while maintaining the other electoral districts, including districts that need to be merged.
The committee will finalize a recommendation plan for electoral districts by the end of next week and announce it.
