MOLIT to support 2nd airport assessment

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) is reviewing whether to redeem a strategic environmental assessment for the second airport which was rejected by the Ministry of Environment.

The Ministry said that they are reviewing whether to
commission the study to examine the possibility
to supplement the strategic environmental assessment
of the second airport.

The study will examine the possibility of
revising the assessment following the reasons of rejection.


If considered feasible,
the Ministry will rewrite the assessment
and undergo procedures accordingly.
If assessed as unfeasible, the second airport project may be foundered.

Even with the decision to commission the research,
the procedure is expected to take several months.

Therefore it is possible that
the fate of the second airport
may not be determined during the Moon Jae-in
administration.

현재 제2공항 전략환경영향평가 보완 가능성을 검토하는
연구 용역 발주 여부를 검토하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

이번 용역은
환경부가 제시한 반려 사유를 극복할 수 있는지
검증하는 것으로,
보완이 가능하다고 판단되면
국토부가 전략환경영향평가서 본안을 다시 작성해
절차를 이어가게 됩니다.

반대로 보완이 불가능한 것으로 결론날 경우
2공항 사업은 무산되는 수순을 밟게 됩니다.

다만 용역을 발주하는 것으로 결정된다고 해도
과업 기간이 수 개월로 예상돼
이번 정부에서 2공항 추진 여부가 결정되기는
어려울 것이라는 전망도 나옵니다.
