Online scammer sentenced to prison

A 38 year-old scammer who made high profits worth 800 million won by scamming people to purchase luxury bags via online auctions
was sentenced to one year and a half in prison with three years of probation.

The Jeju District Court said that
while the crime is not minor
it was decided that giving the scammer
the opportunity to recover from financial damages
by being sentenced to probation is crucial.
The court added that victims also share
responsibility as they did not look deep into
the crime which was deterred by high profits.


8억대 명품가방 사기 30대 '집행유예'

외국에서 판매중인 명품가방을
인터넷 경매 방식으로 낙찰받아 수입하면
높은 이득을 올릴 수 있다고 속여
피해자들로부터
8억원대를 받아 가로챈 혐의로 기소된
38살 A 피고인에게 징역 1년 6월에 집행유예 3년을 선고했습니다.

재판부는 판결문에서
편취금액이 상당해 죄질이 결코 가볍지 않지만
집행유예를 선고함으로써
피해를 회복할 수 있는 기회를 주는게 더 바람직하며
피해자 또한
고리의 이익금을 받기 위해
주의를 기울이지 않은 책임도 적지 않아
이같이 선고한다고 판시했습니다.
