Organizations against development Nature Theme Park
Rare plant species found in the area

Local environmental organizations have urged to halt development of Jeju Nature Theme Park which will face an environmental impact assessment review, as rare plant species were found in the area.

The organizations said that 10 rare species,
including Willow-leaf lance fern,
Jeju grapefern and Island golden calanthe were found
at the project site in Dongbok-ri, Gujwa-eup.

They are claiming the area to be included
in the Gotjawal area with its high ecological value
and urged that the business plan be revoked.

The Nature Theme Park,
which changed its name from Safari World previously,
received its environmental impact assessment review
on October 1st.

한편 자연체험파크는 과거 사파리월드에서
명칭을 바꾼 개발사업으로
환경영향평가 심의가 예정돼 있습니다.


제주자연체험파크 조성사업에 대한
환경영형평가 심의를 앞둔 가운데
환경단체가
해당 사업지에서 희귀식물이 추가로 발견됐다며
절차 중단을 촉구했습니다.
제주지역 환경단체들은
구좌읍 동복리 제주자연체험파크 사업 부지에서
버들일엽과 제주고사리삼, 금새우난초 등
희귀식물 10여 종이 발견됐다고 밝혔습니다.

이에따라 이들 단체는
해당 부지의 생태적 우수성이 인정된 만큼
사업지를 곶자왈 보호지역에 포함시키고
사업 계획을 반려해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

10월 1일 환경영향평가 심의가 예정돼 있습니다.
