Voice phishing scammer busted
Low-interest loan scam on the rise

Voice phishing cases where scammers impersonate bank representatives and promise to provide low-interest loans have been reported recently.

According to the Dongbu Police Station,
last month a suspect in his fifties tricked a victim
to believe that a low-interest loan and 8 million won of cash
would be offered.

On August 24th, a victim of a voice phishing scam
passed 10 million won of cash
to a suspect in his forties in a street in (외도동) Oedo-dong
who used a similar scam. The suspect was arrested
and is under investigation.

Police are investigating details of the scams
and are identifying additional victims.

최근 저금리 대출을 미끼로
피해자들로부터 돈을 가로채는
보이스피싱이 기승을 부리고 있습니다.

제주동부경찰서에 따르면
피의자인 50대 남성 A씨는
지난 달 7일, 저금리 대출을 해주겠다고 속여
피해자로부터 현금 8백만 원을 가로챈 혐의로 구속됐습니다.

이보다 앞선 지난 8월 24일,
다른 지역에 거주하는
40대 남성 피의자 B씨는
같은 수법으로
제주시 오라동의 한 골목에서
피해자로부터 1천만 원을 가로챈 혐의로
경찰에 검거돼 조사를 받고 있습니다.

경찰은 정확한 사건 경위와 함께 추가 피해자 여부 등을 조사하고 있습니다.
