Outlet Mall Come to Jeju

One of the nation's major firms has opened its shopping mall in Jeju.
The island's first outlet mall is in Jeju Shinhwa World, on the site where the Jeju Tourism Organization withdrew its duty free shop last year.


The outlet mall has one floor below the ground and eight floors above the ground, and 8,800 square meters of floor area.


45 fashion brands including 12 international brands have opened their stores at the mall.


The mall is expected to provide tourists with more shopping experience in Jeju that has limited options for shopping.
Tourists and locals are excited about the new mall.


The outlet mall opens at 10:30 in the morning, and closes at 9 in the evening.
Shop operators are now relieved. The outlet mall had faced strong opposition from local merchants, and the opening had been delayed.


(신세계) Shinsegae Simon has accepted Seoul's arbitration recommendations.
One of the recommendations is a ban on bringing 372 brands that are already being sold in local shopping districts to the outlet mall.


The shopping mall operator presumes that more than 200 new jobs will be created from the opening.


Islanders and visitors are excited at the opening of the new mall, but the island as a whole is now watching to see the effects on the local economy.

신세계 아웃렛 본격 영업…"쇼핑 인프라 부족 보완"


대기업이 진출한 첫번째 아웃렛이 제주에 문을 열었습니다.

위치는 서귀포 신화월드 내
제주관광공사 시내면세점이 있던 자리로
지하 1층과
지상 1층으로 8천8백여 제곱미터 규모입니다.

판매 제품은 해외 명품 브랜드 12개를 비롯해
의류와 스포츠골프,
구두, 가방 등 국내외 45개 브랜드가 입점했습니다.

백화점이나 대형쇼핑몰이 없어
부족한 쇼핑인프라가
제주관광의 약점으로 꼽혀왔던 만큼
아웃렛 입점에 대한 관광객과 도민들의 기대가 큽니다.


아웃렛은 매일 오전 10시 30분부터 저녁 9시까지 운영됩니다.

그동안 도내 소상공인들의 강한 반대에 부딪혀 개장이 늦어지면서
애를 태우던 입점 업체들도 크게 안도하는 모습입니다.


신세계사이먼측은 상공인들과의 마찰로 개장이 늦어지자
정부의 권고 사항을 받아들여
종전 지역상권과
겹치지 않는 브랜드로 제한해 개장을 준비했습니다.

신세계사이먼측은
이번 아웃렛 개장으로
2백명 이상의
지역 일자리가 생겨날 것으로 예상하고 있습니다.

아웃렛 개장으로 제주에 부족했던 쇼핑 인프라가 보완되면서
도민과 관광객들의 기대감이 높지만
앞으로 지역 경제에 미칠 영향에도 관심이 쏠리고 있습니다.
