Direct election system needed to elect mayors
Public officials and experts respond to survey

More than half of local public officials said that a direct election system should be implemented to elect mayors in Jeju.

The Jeju Provincial Council’s
Autonomy Administration Committee
conducted a survey with 1,100 public officials and experts
about 92 policies in seven fields.

55.4% of public officials who participated in the survey
and 68% of experts responding to the survey
said that a direct election system is needed
to elect local mayors.

In addition, 51.3% of local civil servants and 59% of experts
agreed with changing administrative districts to three areas.

Currently, Jeju Island has two administrative districts,
that are Jeju City and Seogwipo City.

Most local public officials evaluated the
province’s operation of organizations financed by Jeju
better than average, but gave negative assessments.

제주지역 공무원 과반 이상이
행정시장 직선제가 필요하다는 입장을 보였습니다.

제주도의회 행정자치위원회가 도내 공무원과 전문가 1천 100명에게
7개 분야 92개 정책에 대한 설문조사 결과 공직자의 55.4%, 전문가의 68%가
행정시장 직선제가 필요하다고 응답했습니다.

또 현재 제주시와 서귀포시를 3개 행정구역으로 조정하는 것에 대해
공직자 51.3%, 전문가 59%가 찬성했습니다.

제주도 출자출연기관 운영과 관련해서는 공직자 대부분이 보통 이상의 평가를 내놨지만, 전문가들은 부정적인 입장을 보였습니다.
