National Assembly Deals on Election Issues

Ahead of the Provincial Election and Local Council Election in June next year, Jeju continues to see delays in adjustments to electoral districts.

A National Assembly committee has recently appointed the chairperson and assistant administrators of the committee to go into action.

The committee will focus on lowering the age for running for provincial governor, councilors and lawmakers from 25 to 18 and
constitutional discordance issues related to election laws
and adjusting electoral districts based on changes in population.

The revision bill of the Jeju Special Act proposed by lawmaker Song Jae-ho and Wi Seong-gon which stipulates an increase
in the number of provincial councilors in Jeju
has to be dealt with by the committee,
but it has been out of the committee’s interest
due to a number of issues.

If the number of councilors does not increase, there will be issues caused by merging electoral districts.


국회 정개특위 출범, 도의원 선거구 '관심 밖'

내년 6.1 지방선거를 앞두고 제주도의회 선거구획정 작업이 계속해서 지연되고 있습니다.

국회 정치개혁특별위원회는 최근 위원장과 여야 간사 선임을 마무리하는 등 본격적인 활동에 들어갔습니다.

특히 기초단체장과 시도의원, 국회의원 출마 후보 연령을 현재 만 25살에서 18살로 낮추는 안을 중점으로 다루게 되며 주요 선거법의 헌법 불합치 사안, 지역별 인구수 증감에 따른 선거구를 조정하게 됩니다.

현재 송재호.위성곤 의원이 발의한 제주도의원 정수 확대를 담은 제주특별법 개정안도
정치개혁특위에서 다뤄져야 하는데, 여러 주요현안으로 관심 밖으로 밀려나고 있습니다.

도의원 정수가 확대되지 않을 경우
통폐합을 피할 수 없어 진통이 예상되고 있습니다.
