Province to Compensate for April 3rd Victims

As the revision bill of the April 3rd Special Act, which stipulates the payment of compensation to the victims, is passed by the national assembly, the provincial government is taking steps to prepare for the payment.

The provincial government said that they are currently
checking possible claimants for each victim based
on civil law and establishing a compensation payment system.

In addition, they are planning to establish a team
in charge of the compensation system in each city office
by the first half of next year
and dispatch temporary employees in community centers.

The provincial office will make all their efforts to carefully process applications, as well as the reviewing and decision making processes
as a total of 15,000 victims of the April 3rd Incident
are to be compensated 70 years after the incident.

4.3특별법 개정안이 국회를 통과함에 따라
제주도가 보상금 지급을 위한 본격적인 절차에 들어갑니다.

제주도는 현재 민법상 희생자별 사전 청구권자 확인 작업을 하고 있으며 보상금 지급 시스템을 구축하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

또 내년 상반기 행정시에 보상금 지급 전담팀을 신설하고
읍면동에는 기간제 근로자 등을 배치할 계획입니다.

제주도는 4.3희생자가 1만 5천여 명에 이르고
70여 년이 지나 보상이 이뤄지는 만큼
신청.접수와 심의.결정이 차질없이 진행되도록
역량을 집중해 나갈 방침입니다.
