Local Streams and Islets Suffer

This is a stream in (애월읍) Aewol-eup, Jeju City.

A nearby restaurant built the structure without receiving permission for grocery storage.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has charged the owner of the restaurant with a violation of the River Act, and an investigation is underway.

In the same month, it was reported to the police that a part of the downstream of (산지천) Sanjicheon Stream was contaminated with white pollutants.

Police uncovered from its investigation that a merchant at a nearby traditional market discharged leftover white paint into a storm drain.

The merchant in his sixties was charged with violation of the Waste Control Act and the Water and Environment Protection Act, and the case was forwarded to the prosecution.
Islets around Jeju are also suffering from pollution and illegal occupation.

A horse riding course had been illegally built in forest reserves of (우도) Udo Island where any kind of development is strictly prohibited.
On (가파도) Gapado Island, violators who abandoned and neglected their cars for years have been caught.

At the Jeju Provincial Police Agency's crackdown on illegal use of publicly owned property near streams and properties of islets, 15 unlawful cases have been uncovered over the last three months.

Five cases have been forwarded to the prosecution, and the other ten cases are under police investigation.

The police compare the past and the present appearance of the area by geographic information system to spot questionable places.

It was pointed out that police should beef up supervision on violations at publicly owned land.

오염됐다는 신고가 접수됐습니다.

조사 결과 인근 시장 상인이
사용하고 남은 페인트를
우수관에 버린 것으로 확인됐습니다.

경찰은 60대 시장 상인을
폐기물 관리법과 물환경보전법 위반 혐의로 검찰에 송치했습니다.

도서지역에서도 불법행위가 잇따랐습니다.

개발행위가 엄격히 제한되는 우도면 보전산지 안에서

가파도에서는 장기간 무단 방치된 차량 등이 적발됐습니다.

자치경찰이
지난 9월부터 지난 달까지 3개월 동안
도내 하천과 부속 섬의 불법 행위를 집중 단속한 결과
모두 15건을 적발했습니다.

이 가운데 5건은
기소 의견으로 검찰에 송치 됐고
나머지 사건에 대해서는 수사를 진행중입니다.

자치경찰은 특히 공간정보시스템을 이용해
과거와
현재 모습을 비교하고
불법 행위 의심 장소를 찾아내고 있습니다.

눈에 잘 띄지 않는 사각지대에서 암암리에 불법행위가 잇따르면서
이에 대한 단속도
더욱 강화돼야 한다는 지적입니다.
