Press foundation for Jeju media outlets

The Jeju Research Institute claimed that a separate press foundation supporting local media outlets is needed.

The JRI argued that Jeju Press Foundation is needed for producing high quality news, strengthening reporters’ capacities and
investigative journalism, according to the results
of the feasibility analysis of the press foundation.

Researchers backed up their argument saying that various projects promoted by the Korea Press Foundation have not contributed to the improvement of local press, according to the demand survey among local journalists.

Meanwhile, the democratic party lawmaker, (위성곤) Wi Seong-gon proposed a revision bill of the Jeju Special Act.
The revision bill stipulates the establishment of
a separate foundation which is commissioned to do
advertisement tasks by local public institutions.

연구원은 한국언론진흥재단이 추진하고 있는 각종 사업들이
제주지역 언론 진흥에 기여하지 않는다고 응답한
도내 언론인 수요조사를 근거로 제시했습니다.

한편 앞서 위성곤 국회의원은
도내 공공기관의 광고업무 위탁기관으로
별도 재단을 설립해 대행할 수 있도록 하는 내용의
제주특별법 개정안을 발의했습니다.
