A head of napa cabbage is 7,550 won.
That's a 58 percent increase from a year ago when it was 4,770 won.

The price hike is attributed to the limited supply of Jeju cabbage and lower production in (해남) Haenam, an exporting region to the island, as a result of plant diseases and other conditions.

Last month the island’s consumer price inflation hit a 10-year record high.
Groceries, especially vegetables, are a major category of price hike that has hit consumers’ pocketbooks hard.


Cucumber prices have risen by 55 percent compared to the same month last year, from 7,500 won to 11,600 won per 10 cucumbers.
Green onion and green pumpkin prices have surged 50 percent.


Carrot prices have risen by 28 percent from 2,466 won to 3,160 won per kilogram.
Spinach and cherry tomato prices have increased 21 percent.


Shoppers, shocked at grocery prices, can’t loosen their purse strings.

Facing these sorts of steep price hikes this season, households across the island are bracing not just for the cold weather, but also economic austerity.



배추 한 포기 7천 원…치솟는 채소 물가


배추 한 포기 가격이 7천 원을 넘어섰습니다.

지난해 4천 원대에서 무려 60% 가까이 오른 겁니다.

제주산 배추의 공급이 크게 줄면서
해남에서 물량을 들여오고 있지만
이마저도 병해충 등으로 작황이 좋지 않아
금값에 거래되고 있습니다.

지난 달 제주지역 소비자물가 상승률이
10년 만에 최고치를 기록한 데 이어
채소류를 중심으로 장바구니 물가가 고공행진하고 있습니다.


오이 10개가 지난해 7천 원대에서
1만 1천 원대로 55%나 상승했고
대파와 애호박도 50%씩 올랐습니다.


당근도 1kg에 2천 원대에서 3천 원대로 28%,
시금치와
방울토마토도 21%씩 올랐습니다.


모처럼 장을 보러 나온 서민들은
쉽사리 지갑을 열지 못합니다.


가파른 물가 상승이 이어지면서
연말연시 서민들의 살림살이도 더 팍팍해지고 있습니다.
